back in the groove

July 21, 2003
you can all rest easier now. i have returned to diaryland. exhale.

my adventures in flordia were interesting to say the least. here are some of the highlights:

Night 1-After spending the day in the car our built up energy and excitement was almost to the breaking point. so after eating dinner we decided to turn out all the lights and play hide and seek in the dark. this did present a problem because even though our condo was two stories...it wasn't huge. we made it two rounds before katie and i cheated and ran outside.

Day 1 (of actual beach time)-excited as i was, i had forgotten that the water tasted like salt. yeah, a horrible oversight. so i ran in and dove under...coming up with a mouthful of nasty water. i didn't actually mean to open my mouth under water, but whatever. i also tried body surfing for the first time. and man, it was a total rush. i even bought myself a board...but the last few days i only caught two really nice waves because of choppy water and such.

Night 2-Joes Crab Shack. i don't think i've had that great of a time in awhile. the night got off to a promising start while we were sitting at the bar. the bartenders were awesome and even though our drinks were alcohol-less, we still felt cool. anyway. joes crab shack has many special things about it. the big one being the entertainment. the servers will stop what they are doing for about two minutes, scatter out among the tables and dance to songs that come on. very, very enjoyable to watch...but after a few of those songs i wanted to get up and dance to. so i did. the only customer (besides katie's sister) to get up and do it. yeah, i felt cooler than everyone for awhile. then came the best part of the night. katie's parents told the server it was her birthday (it's tomorrow) and that she wouldn't get up and do anything unless i did to. so katie got to run around the resturant on a stick horse yelling "yee hah!" and i got to shake some pom-poms and yell "she's a pretty, pretty cowgirl!"...talk about feeling cool.

On a side note...RAR is spelled with just one "R" not two. Rar!!

Night 4-(yeah, i skipped a few nights for lack of interesting stories) katie and i had the choice of dinner place so we choose LaRoccos..this italian place. it seemed like a good choice until we met our waiter. let me tell ya, we were not happy beach people when we left that night. i can't remember anything specific he did, i think it was just a lack of intelligence and courtesy. one good thing did come out of that night though...katie and i decided that salad dressing is flammable. go figure.

Day 4-Parasailing. you'd figure it would be easy to get on the boat, ride out there, get in the harness and go up. not so much. first of all, i fell off the ladder trying to get on the boat. don't ask how..i just did. i blame the waves. the ride out to deeper water was fine, as well as the harness. it was going up that hurt. literally. as we went up, my heels caught on the edge of the boat and i slammed then into the little "step" on the back of the boat. yeah, i know..hard to imagine. but just know that it hurt. when we finally got up there though, it was so beautiful. 400ft in the air doesn't seem like much, but it was a great view.

Night 5- so we decided to go to McGuires. This irish pub place. the second we walked in i noticed all the dollar bills hanging from the ceiling. our hostess said it was like 140,000 dollars hanging so far. hoooooooooooly geez. talk about the temptation. anyway. as with everywhere we had eaten so far, we caused quite a stir that night. katie and i can't go anywhere without making ourselves known. i won't go into the whole story (because you're probably bored anyway) but i will say that it involved a stage, a unicorn song, some boys, and a whole bunch of people laughing at us.

Last night in Destin-We got to cruise in the minivan. oh yeah. katie and i took the minivan, sean paul and our energized selves in the friday night life of destin. of course the night wouldn't have been complete without the "show me your boobs" proposition from some stupid teenage boys...to which i slyly responded "i have too much class for that" and rolled up my window.

and so now i'm back. with a nice tan, some lighter hair and a henna tattoo on my hip that means "energy"...a nice way to sum up the vacation i guess.
