"drinking coffee; making plans to change the world."

no kid should see their parent drugged up. even if only for an afternoon.

September 15, 2003
hospitals are no place for exploring. some would beg to differ, and under most circumstances, so would i.

but not today.

no, today i had to go with my dad to the hospital so he could "get some tests done." that was the parental way of putting what was to become "checking for signs of cancer."

parents. they always think they're protecting you by not saying the obvious, but in actuality, it's SOOOOO obvious they're keeping something a secret.

so from 10:45am to 1:34pm, i was wandering the halls of erlanger alone. and naturally, i was imagining the worst. i went to a little cafe on the first level and played with my nifty laptop for awhile, but that became boring after a bit. so then i walked around the parking garage, but soon, that too became boring (not to mention slighty weird and dangerous).

so then i resigned myself to exploring.

now, under normal circumstances this would have been fun for me. but my high anxiety level due to the events taking place compounded with the fact that i hate hospitals more than i hate guys in jean shorts, made the exploring less than enjoyable. i did find blood assurance and considered donating, but after remembering i had hardly any food in me, i continued on my way.

so skipping a few hours ahead....

i finally got to see my dad. and what a sight he was. eyes half closed, mumbling incoherent things, and asking for a beer. in any other setting, you'd think he was drunk. nope, just seriously doped up on medicine. they rolled him down the hall on a bed to the "recovery" room, and i got to wait another 15 minutes before we could leave. after many after-care instructions from a nurse, a wheelchair ride, and a drive to pick up the prescription medicine, we finally arrive at our FINAL DESTINATION! HOME.

i can safely say that i will not miss my "drunk" father. although, for the afternoon i was the "best kid in the world."

according to him at least.
